Gaia Gives 600 Pairs of Shoes to Soles4Souls

Posted on November 21, 2013 by Mary Patterson

Gaia Fit Boot Camp Charleston donated over 600 pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls helping millions worldwide. Boot Campers from all of the different classes and locations (Daniel Island, James Island, Park West/Mt. Pleasant) formed teams competing in the first Battle of the Boot Camps! They competed for points in 7 different events: 1 minute jumping Chin-Up, 1 mile run, 7 minutes of Burpees, 4 minutes of sit-ups, Plank hold, 3 legged race with push-ups and squats, and a tug of war. The most important category was the shoe drive. Many of the teams had collected well over 100 pairs of shoes and they are still donating shoes!

This event held much more significance then some who participated may realize. In the winter of 2012, Gaia Fit launched in New Jersey with a shoe drive boot camp. We were so excited to see more then 3 times the amount of participants as well as almost 3 times the amount of shoes collected. Our Gaia Gives program plays an important role of who we are as a company in the health and fitness industry.

Gaia Fit believes in social responsibility and being a good neighbor. We partner with organizations such as Soles4Souls in projects that will give back to those in need of a helping hand. We provide fundraising activities, workshops and services to local charities, donations of products, and form partnerships with like-minded organizations ready to give back to their community. We strive to make our Gaia Gives programs fun and inspiring. The Battle of the Boot Camps Shoe Drive was just that and so much more! There are no limits to what can be done and we welcome more unique opportunities of partnering and giving.

Thank you everyone. Thank you for your fun spirit, pride, competitive energy, driven focus on health and most of all your charitable actions. The Battle of the Boot Camps was so much more then a little fun competition. As a group, Gaia Fit Charleston will be helping millions of people worldwide. We often take for granted our closets overflowing with shoes to match every occasion and outfit. We forget there are many with not even a pair. By recycling gently worn shoes with the Soles4Souls, the discarded footwear will be given a second chance at life and help many men and women the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty by earning a sustainable income.
